POLAND, NY (WUTR/WFXV/WPNY) -- After a meeting of the Poland Joint Fire District on Tuesday night, many residents of the village woke up on Wednesday morning without a fire department.
According to reports on social media, fire commissioners voted on Tuesday, August 19 to remove the department from fire suppression services after 121 years. This means that they will not respond to calls in the village and will have to rely on other departments to respond to fires.
It is unknown which departments will be called upon in case of emergency. The closest departments to the Village of Poland are the Barneveld Fire Department, located approximately ten miles away, and the Newport Volunteer Fire Department, which is almost five miles away.
