SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) - It may be the first week of school across the Ozarks, but Springfield is already working on ways to improve its transportation plan beyond this school year.
“It’s not just about expansion, it’s about improving the services at the same time,” said director of transportation Keith Adams.
Within the Springfield school district 11,000 students are eligible to ride the bus. But in some cases, the vehicles aren’t as full as they can be.
“When you have 1 or 2 students running on a school bus at 6 miles to the gallon, it’s not very efficient at all,” said Adams.
He says he’s working on a strategy to get as many students moving as possible.
