Sheriff's department investigating infant death at Columbia hotel

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Investigators with the Richland County Sheriff's Department (RCSD) are looking into the death of an infant at a local hotel.

The sheriff's department was contacted around 7 a.m. Tuesday, August 19, by a local hospital after EMS transported and infant from the Days Inn at 1144 Bush River Road. Investigators dispatched to the hotel and processed the scene.

At this time, no one is in custody. RCSD is working with the Richland County Coroner's Office to determine the child's cause of death.
