COLUMBIA, S.C. — The trial of former South Carolina State Representative R.J. May , who's facing charges of distributing child sexual abuse material , has been slightly delayed.
Judge Cameron Currie on Wednesday morning granted a motion to have a continuance for the start of May's trial. His defense had requested the extra time and prosecutors had agreed to the motion.
Originally set for September, jury selection for May's trial will now begin on October 8 at the federal courthouse in Columbia, with the trial starting the next day. May also has another pretrial conference set for September 24. The court said if a plea agreement is reached before that date, a change of plea hearing would take place on that date.
