DETROIT – A lengthy cleanup was needed after a semi-truck flipped and spilled 40,000 pounds of merchandise onto a busy Detroit freeway.

Michigan State Police responded to the crash, which occurred on the westbound I-94 ramp to eastbound I-96 in Detroit at 2:15 a.m. on Wednesday.

Police say a 26-year-old male from East Regina, Saskatchewan was traveling too fast onto the ramp and caused the contents in the trailer to shift, resulting in just the trailer tipping over.

While tow operators attempted to upright the trailer, one side of the trailer wall gave way, spilling the merchandise onto the ramp. Items needed to be reloaded by hand, police said.
