YONKERS, N.Y. (PIX11) – A Yonkers man has been diagnosed with the first case of West Nile virus seen in a human this year in Westchester County, health officials said.
It’s not clear where the man was exposed to the virus. West Nile virus is spread through mosquito bites, with the insects attracted to places with standing water, according to health officials.
The virus causes flu-like symptoms, but can be more serious for people age 65 and older or those with underlying health conditions. These are the symptoms to watch out for: • Fever • Headache • Body aches • Joint pain
