Seattle’s school year is expected to start on schedule Sept. 3, with teachers, paraprofessionals and office staff working under new contracts.

That’s a different picture from 2022, when the last teachers union contract expired and a strike delayed the start of the school year.

This time, the district and the Seattle Education Association, which represents nearly 6,000 workers in three bargaining units, hammered out a one-year deal before the contract’s Aug. 31 expiration.
