Last week, the Coast Guard announced that it had suspended the search for a missing Quilcene fisherman along the Pacific Northwest coastline after its crew recovered his fishing vessel.
That Jefferson County fisherman was later identified by family and friends as 70-year-old Joel William Kawahara.
Kawahara went missing last week after departing from his home alone aboard the fishing vessel, the Karolee, according to a Coast Guard news release issued Thursday.
Kawahara was last heard from at 7:30 a.m. Aug. 8, according to the Coast Guard, after which time, the Karolee was visible “via its automatic identification system (AIS) and was traveling a constant southerly course at approximately four knots for several days.”
