- The United States Attorney's Office for the Northern District of Indiana have increased the number of felony reentry of an illegal or deported alien cases filed this year.
- Federal prosecutors have filed 21 cases since January compared to only one filed in 2024. The charges can be filed against anyone referred to the Department of Homeland Security who was previously ordered to be deported.
- Defendants face a maximum of two years in prison for the crimes or up to 10 years if they were previously deported because of a criminal conviction. They are placed in the custody of immigration officials after they serve their sentence.
