MICHIGAN CITY — While a murder charge was dropped this week against a 27-year-old local man in connection with a recent bar shooting , police say his legal troubles are far from over.

The man remains a suspect in the ongoing shooting investigation and he has been transferred to federal custody in an undisclosed case, according to Michigan City Police Lt. Steve Westphal.

The man has no open criminal cases listed on area federal online court dockets.

"I can’t say much else at this point other than the investigation has expanded and additional information is being processed," Westphal said.
