MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. (WNDU) - School officials in Michigan City say most of the buses that were damaged by vandals earlier this week are ready to hit the road again.
Michigan City Area Schools says its mechanics have repaired 20 of the damaged buses, with one final bus awaiting a part.
The district was forced to call a last-minute eLearning day on Tuesday after more than 20 buses were disabled by vandals. Drivers showed up to start their routes and noticed that someone stole the catalytic converters from about a third of the district’s bus fleet.
In response, several other Michiana-area school districts loaned their extra school buses to Michigan City . Some students were able to return to the classroom on Wednesday, but middle and high schoolers had to learn remotely for another day
