LAPORTE COUNTY, Ind. (WNDU) - The man accused of hitting two New Prairie United School Corporation mini buses with a box truck in LaPorte County earlier this year made a court appearance on Friday.
According to online court records, 41-year-old Shawn Akison made his appearance via video as the court confirmed the new charges brought against him .
The new and amended charges were handed to Akison earlier this week after a blood test found that he had fentanyl in his system at the time of the crash.
Akison now faces five total charges consisting of three different OWIs and two different charges of criminal recklessness.
Akison was arrested after the crash on May 8 at the intersection of U.S. 20 and Fail Road. Seven players and two coaches with the New Prairie JV baseball team were
