The flooding of the BP Whiting Refinery during Monday's storm appear to have caused a slight increase in wholesale gas prices in the Midwest, but any increase at the pump is likely to be short-lived, GasBuddy Head of Petroleum Analysis Patrick DeHaan said.

"Great Lakes gasoline markets appear to be reacting to BP's storm-related issues," De Haan said. "Wholesale gas prices are up 4 to 6 cents a gallon. Probably won't see much, but this may push the typical price cycle up a day or two."

The BP Whiting Refinery is the largest refinery in the Midwest, supplying to seven states. Any significant outages or operational issues often cause gas prices to rise throughout the Region.
