Crichfield Elementary School educator Martin Briggs is one of seven finalists for the Indiana Teacher of the Year award.

Briggs, who has taught in the LaPorte Community School Corp. for over 47 years, was named the district's elementary teacher of the year earlier this spring.

LaPorte schools will be hosting a send-off event at 4 p.m. on Wednesday at Crichfield Elementary as Briggs heads to Indianapolis the following day for his panel interview for the final round of the award selection process.
