Unions representing health care workers welcome the province's recent decision to provide free COVID-19 vaccine for health care workers who want to be immunized.
In June, the government had announced that most Albertans will have to pay over $100 to be immunized at public health clinics, except for the highest-risk groups, like seniors in supportive living or those with underlying medical conditions.
“The fact that the government’s initial plan was for only a tiny portion of Albertans to have free access to vaccines, and that they didn’t include health care workers in that plan, was incredibly short-sighted and disrespectful,” said Chris Gallaway, executive director of Friends of Medicare, in a statement.
