COLUMBIA — A fall trial date has been tentatively set for former South Carolina state lawmaker RJ May who faces 10 federal counts associated with possession of child sexual abuse material.

May appeared in person Aug. 20 for a pre-trial conference at the federal courthouse in Columbia where U.S. District Judge Cameron Currie set jury selection for Oct. 8 and a trial start date of Oct. 9.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Scott Matthews told Currie the trial would likely take six days.

May did not speak during the hearing other to acknowledge questions from the judge.

May resigned from his position as a state lawmaker representing Lexington County on Aug. 11 two months after his arrest. He faces charges stemming from allegedly sending or receiving more than 1,000 messages containing child sex
