ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) — Two separate guns from unrelated incidents were found at West Mesa High on Wednesday, according to Albuquerque Public Schools. Both involved students were taken into custody.
The first gun was found in a student's backpack after a "tense situation that unfolded in one of our classrooms." A teacher was first notified that a student had a weapon in the restroom. The teacher pushed an alarm on his badge, prompting an assistant principal and school resource officer to enter the room.
The officer then drew his weapon and ordered the student to get on the ground. An altercation briefly broke out, and other students were evacuated from the classroom. The involved student was taken into custody, and a gun was found in his backpack.
