NEWPORT, R.I. (WLNE) — The City of Newport said it was closing Easton’s Beach starting Wednesday night due to weather coming from Hurricane Erin.

Swimming will be off-limits and staff will be on the beach to prevent swimming.

The city said that the storm was expected to remain offshore, but its strength was expected to cause rip currents and heavy surf.
