OPELIKA, Ala. (WTVM) - Opelika officials are investigating a vehicle vs. train accident that happened on Wednesday afternoon.

According to officials with OPD, a 69-year-old woman is currently in the hospital receiving treatment after a vehicle vs. train accident in Opelika.

Authorities sa Opelika Police and Fire responded to the scene on 8th Street on Wednesday afternoon.

Upon arrival, first responders located the woman entrapped in a Mercedes passenger car. Police say the victim was transported to East Alabama Medical Center, where she was life-flighted to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta.

Officials have not yet released her condition.

The crash remains under investigation by the Opleika Police Traffic Homicide Investigation Unit.
