A man was charged with assault on Tuesday after an incident at a Mayfield residence.

Callers told Mayfield police that they had been assaulted by a man holding a knife. The suspect had fled the scene as officers arrived.

More officers arrived and located 37-year-old Jonathan Gilleyen at a nearby residence. They determined that Gilleyen drove a vehicle away from the original scene. Officers said they smelled the odor of an alcoholic beverage and marijuana coming from Gilleyen and the vehicle.

A field sobriety test indicated that Gilleyen was impaired.

Gilleyen was arrested and charged with assault and wanton endangerment.

He was lodged in the McCracken County Jail.
