City leaders in Fort Worth say most flood-related deaths happen when people drive into overtopped roads. Now, they’re testing new technology to help prevent that from happening.
The pilot program includes equipment at four locations that sends an alert to a driver’s phone or car infotainment system.

“To change how we’re communicating with drivers, so they’re not just seeing the flashers in the field, but they’re also getting those instant, real-time notifications either on their cell phones through the Waze or Apple Maps app, or through their vehicle navigation systems," said Jennifer Dyke, assistant director of stormwater in Fort Worth's Transportation and Public Works Department.
