ORONO, Maine — Police said on social media around 7 p.m. Wednesday that a situation in the area near the Old Town-Orono line on Route 2 was cleared and safe for the public after earlier sending out an alert for the public to avoid the area.
Investigators have not yet said what the incident was or what led police to that location.
The University of Maine sent out an alert earlier in the evening stating that authorities were investigating a situation at the Old Town-Orono town line on Route 2.
The alert, which was issued shortly before 5 p.m., said the incident was near the dirt turnaround at the intersection of Dufour Lane and Main Street/Park Street.
The University of Maine Police Department had asked people to avoid the area while officers responded.
