KINSTON, N.C. (WITN) - The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation has arrested a former Kinston police officer on theft charges.

The SBI says it was asked in June by the Lenoir County District Attorney’s Office to look into the suspected theft of money from a citizen by a Kinston Police officer during a vehicle accident that occurred in May of 2024.

On Wednesday, Daquante Jones was arrested on one count of theft from the person and one count of altering, destroying, or stealing criminal evidence for actions he allegedly committed while performing his duties with the Kinston Police Department.

Jones was released from the Lenoir County Magistrate’s Office under a $5,000 Bond.

His first court appearance will be on Thursday.
