DULUTH, Minn. (Northern News Now) - Staff at Summit School planted a tree on Wednesday in memory of MaeDean Davin, a former employee who was killed by her son over the weekend in Duluth’s East Hillside neighborhood.
Summit School director India Salter says Davin lived in the school’s neighborhood and walked by the school frequently, even after retiring in 2022.
Salter and other staff members hope the tree serves as a reminder of Davin’s spirit to both the school and neighborhood communities.
“She would walk with her grandson through the neighborhood, and [the kids] would run, flock to the fence to try to get to her,” said Salter.
Davin was beloved by both the kids and staff at Summit, where she worked for about three years after a long career at AMSOIL arena.
