WILLIAMSBURG COUNTY, S.C. (WCSC) - The Williamsburg County Sheriff’s Office has announced that an inmate has died at an area hospital.

Phillip Lemmon Jr., 49, of Kingstree, died at an area hospital after being transported from the Williamsburg County Detention Center on Wednesday morning, Coroner Ivori Henryhand says.

Capt. Darryl Moyd says detention center correctional officers found the inmate at 3:43 a.m. in need of medical attention. Deputies and detention center staff rendered aid to the inmate until he was transported to the hospital by emergency medical services.

An autopsy will be performed on Friday to determine the cause of death.

This incident is being investigated by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division.
