EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) - Habitat for Humanity of Evansville took a major step forward today in its “Together we build, together we grow” strategic plan.

With the opening of their new facility on Maxwell Avenue, they hope it makes it easier to build year-round, and increase what they do for the area.

People from groups all over Evansville gathered today related to one idea... Evansville needs more affordable housing.

“A recent housing study that we’ve done shows that we need over 4,000 units of housing in the next five years. I’ve set a goal of 2,000 by the end of 2027,” Evansville Mayor Stephanie Terry said. “It’s an ambitious goal, yes, it’s an ambitious goal. But we can do big things here in Evansville.”

For that reason, the Habitat for Humanity of Evansville opened a new volunteer
