LAS VEGAS (KLAS) -- A vehicle crashed into what the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department called a water main on Wednesday afternoon and closed down lanes in the area.

According to the LVMPD, at around 4:30, police responded to the 400 block of North Nellis Boulevard, near Stewart Avenue, after a report of a single vehicle accident involving a gray SUV and a water main.

Police said the SUV left the roadway, flipped on its side, and "made contact" with the water main, causing damage.

Medical personnel took the driver to a local hospital in unknown condition. Police said speed and impairment are not considered to be factors in the crash.

The LVMPD traffic section is heading the investigation.

Police said the southbound lanes of Nellis were closed and drivers should avoid the area.
