PHOENIX (AZFamily) —A ruling by the Arizona Supreme Court , announced on Wednesday, could have a significant impact on how mental competency cases are handled.
The decision was based on a 2018 case involving a crazed gunman, who reportedly shot and killed a young father inside a Phoenix Circle K store off 19th Avenue and Grant Street.
The gunman was later subdued by a bunch of customers, who police say were being held hostage.
Arizona’s Family spoke to the victim’s wife, a few months after her husband, Efran Hernandez, was killed.
“He was always there and responsible,” said Karolyn Hernandez. " He worked a full time job. How could you have taken them from him. How could you go in and shoot somone you dont know?"
