MARICOPA, AZ (AZFamily) — Family members are remembering a Maricopa man as a hero who died while saving his wife from a large house fire earlier this month.
Weeks after 63-year-old Michael Blunt died after a large house fire in Maricopa , his community is continually showing its support.
Blunt’s family said he was heroic when he ran into the burning home to rescue his wife and prevent the fire from spreading before collapsing in the backyard. “That’s just the kind of guy Mike was,” said Nick Castillo, Blunt’s stepson.
Castillo says Blunt jumped into action and did the right thing. “Knowing in his last moments he wanted to help the neighbors, he wanted to help my mom,” Castillo said.
Around 5 a.m. on Aug. 8, Blunt noticed a fire in his backyard. He ran outside to extinguish the flames
