BLOOMINGTON ( 25News Now ) - After 17 years in office, the regional school superintendent for McLean and Dewitt counties is calling it a career.
Mark Jontry announced on Wednesday that he will not seek re-election after his current term ends in 2027.
Jontry was elected as regional superintendent in 2008 after serving four years as assistant regional superintendent.
Jontry did endorse a successor, Molly Allen, who is the current assistant regional superintendent.
“Mark Jontry has done an incredible job,” Allen said. He has been a great mentor to me, a wonderful leader of education throughout the community and the state. It has been my pleasure to work with him as I hopefully transition into this new role."
