BARBERTON, Ohio (WJW) - An Akron man was arrested in Barberton on Wednesday evening after investigators said he was found with a loaded weapon and explosives.

According to the Barberton Police Department, officers engaged with the suspect in the 100 block of North Van Buren Avenue at 6:30 p.m.

Investigators said the man, identified as 38-year-old Christopher Wilson, had a loaded firearm and "improvised explosive devices" on him.

Officers were able to safely take the gun, isolate the explosives and arrest Wilson, Barberton police said.

Officials shut down North Van Buren Avenue between East Ford Avenue and East Baird Avenue until the Summit County Bomb Squad secured the explosives. The roadway opened back up around 8:35 p.m.
