HATTERAS, N.C. — Just like the tides, emotions are running high at Cape Hatteras Motel.
"I'm… I'm very anxious," said Melinda Meadows, property manager at Cape Hatteras Motel.
Melinda and Poggie Meadows both manage the motel and live there. Hatteras Island is currently under mandatory evacuation watch because of Hurricane Erin.
"When you see something that says 'hurricane' and 'evacuation' in the same sentence, you're like… 'oh my God, what do we do?'" Melinda said.
She said there's already some damage done to the motel, damage her husband will have to fix. She said the decision to stay was easy, as she couldn't imagine leaving his side.
"You know, we as a family, it's… do we go? Do we not? What do we do?" Melinda said.
