BESSEMER, Ala. ( WBRC ) - It’s the beginning of a new school year and the new superintendent at Bessemer City Schools is only a little more than four months into his new position .

When he first started, Michael Turner said boldly that he didn’t have a strategic plan yet. Turner said he needed to launch his own investigation into the greatest needs for students, faculty, and staff first.

“The things that we wanted to look at first and foremost was what are we doing with teaching and learning,” said Turner. “We definitely wanted to put an emphasis and ramp up that particular area on our strategic plan, rather in our strategic plan.”

One of the things Turner has to do is to help restore confidence after a state takeover and the quick departure of the former superintendent.
