CLEVELAND, Ohio – Two aging bridges on Rockside Road in Independence are slated for repairs and replacement starting this fall – and the work is likely to disrupt traffic for the next two years.
The first bridge, spanning the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad tracks (Bridge 3.23), will get wider piers, a new surface and new decks, according to county information. The other bridge, crossing the Cuyahoga River (Bridge 3.32), is being replaced. The new design includes adding a sidewalk and relocating the piers from the river to the banks to provide a larger hydraulic opening and reduce debris buildup.
