Twelve candidates have filed nomination papers for at-large city councilor in New Bedford.

The preliminary election will be held Oct. 7.

The municipal election is set for Nov. 4.

NEW BEDFORD — It would appear there will be a citywide preliminary election for at-large city councilor barring any last-minute withdrawals.

Aug. 19 was the deadline to file nomination papers for certification of signatures with the Board of Election Commissioners .

There are 12 current candidates for at-large councilor. The preliminary is held when there are twice the number of candidates running for the seats that are open, plus one. That means at least 11 candidates for the five at-large council seats available.

There won’t be preliminaries for any of the ward seats, none of which had the required three
