OSHKOSH, Wis. (WBAY) - To help keep firefighters save, new traffic signs near Oshkosh Fire Station 15 serve as an important reminder to drivers to yield and stop for fire trucks backing into the firehouse.
The flashing signs were installed on Ceape Ave. at station 15 because of how close the entrances of the fire truck bays are to the road.
Firefighters say they usually exit the truck to make sure it’s safely backed into the station. They say it’s important for drivers to stay clear of the area until trucks completely exit the roadway.
Vehicles shouldn’t try to pass the front or the back of the truck too soon.
The driver and firefighters are focused on the fire truck’s blind spots, not on vehicles that mistakenly believe they have a safe gap between the moving truck and the curb.
