Principal Resident Magistrate Benjamin Chulu has given a final opportunity to government witnesses who failed to appear in court in the case involving actress Tumpe Mtaya, also known as Phwedo.

The witnesses are a child who alleges sexual abuse by Mtaya and the child’s mother. Their absence drew criticism from the magistrate, who expressed concern over their apparent lack of commitment to the case.

According to the prosecution, the witnesses were misled by a phone call from someone who mistakenly told them the hearing would not proceed.

Following the call, the child’s mother reportedly left, while the child refused to answer her phone. The court accepted the prosecution’s request to allow the witnesses one final opportunity to appear.
