A doctor in Nova Scotia has been charged with sexual assault following an alleged incident at an emergency room. Dr. Sanjeev Sirpal is accused of assaulting a patient during an assessment at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre in Upper Nappan in January. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) reported that the charge stems from a complaint received in May.

Sirpal was arrested on August 14 and has since been released under specific conditions. He is scheduled to appear in Amherst provincial court on November 15. The RCMP indicated that they believe there may be additional victims and are urging anyone who has experienced similar incidents to come forward.

Dr. Sirpal has a history of practicing medicine in Quebec and is currently registered to practice in New Brunswick, where he has been since March 14. His office is located at Edmundston Regional Hospital, and he specializes in family medicine.

The RCMP emphasized that victims can reach out to law enforcement to discuss their experiences before deciding whether to participate further in the investigation or court proceedings.
