STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — A gas main was struck in Elm Park on Thursday morning, officials said, prompting a large FDNY response.
Around 8:35 a.m., the FDNY received a call for the incident at Richmond Terrace near Morningstar Road and deployed 12 units consisting of 60 fire and EMS personnel to the location.
At the site, a smell of gas was detected lingering in the air.
Richmond Terrace was subsequently closed for a brief period of time from Morningstar Road to Granite Avenue.
A National Grid spokesperson told the Advance/SILive.com that a third-party contractor struck a gas service line and crews responded to the site.
The spokesperson noted that only the one address was impacted.
No injuries were reported and the incident was declared under control by the FDNY just after 9 a.m.
