Judge Frank Caprio died at age 88 after a “long and courageous battle with pancreatic cancer,” according to a statement posted on his Facebook page on Wednesday, Aug. 20.
Caprio, known for his compassionate rulings on a local TV show, “Caught in Providence,” became a familiar face in Rhode Island and beyond as some of his courtroom interactions went viral.
"His warmth, humor and kindness left an indelible mark on all who knew him," the Facebook post said. "He will be remembered not only as a respected judge, but as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. His legacy lives on in the countless acts of kindness he inspired."
Caprio announced his pancreatic cancer diagnosis in 2023, when the judge posted a video to his Instagram account asking for prayers.
