BANGOR, Maine (WABI) - Drought conditions in Maine worsened this week.

The latest Drought Monitor was released Thursday and is valid as of August 19, 2025. Data is taken from Tuesday the week prior to Tuesday of the current week. Data is then analyzed and a new map is released on Thursdays.

The latest map shows all of Knox county and parts of Lincoln, Waldo, Hancock and Washington counties are now in a Severe Drought (D2).

Most of the southern half of the state is experiencing Moderate Drought (D1) conditions, including the Bangor, Waterville and Augusta regions.

Abnormally Dry (D0) conditions extend up to all but northern Aroostook county and extreme northern Penobscot, Piscataquis and Somerset counties.
