CLAY CENTER, Neb. (KSNB) - The man accused of killing a Columbus woman and burying her body in a field near Harvard took a plea deal.

Anthony Mattison, 36, now stands convicted of second-degree murder.

Mattison had been charged with first-degree murder, use of a firearm to commit a felony, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person and improper disposal of human remains.

He was charged in the 2022 death of 25-year-old Jasmine Garnett. Ten days after Garnett went missing, he was arrested for attempted murder after a shootout with Hastings Police.

Court records show that prosecutors filed amended charges in both cases Tuesday.

The new charges in Clay County were second-degree murder and use of a firearm to commit a felony. Mattison pled no contest and was convicted.
