BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WBRC ) - Dozens of men and women are in training right now to become the newest members of the Birmingham Police Department.

They welcomed 93 recruits, the largest academy class in the department’s history, on August 18.

Recruits will complete rigorous coursework covering criminal law, ethics, crisis intervention, and community policing.

In addition, recruits will receive hands-on instruction in firearms proficiency, defensive tactics, emergency vehicle operations, and physical fitness.
