MINT HILL, N.C. (WBTV) -- On a Sunday afternoon coming home from church, Aleksandra Bocharova’s life flashed before her eyes while waiting at a red light in Mint Hill.

Just across the intersection from her, a Mint Hill police car was slowing to a stop at the opposite red light.

Dash cam footage and a crash report detail what happened next: The police car’s emergency lights and sirens flicked on, and the officer accelerated through the intersection instead.

As the police car was about three-fourths through the intersection, a third vehicle comes into view on the footage: they have the green light. The driver told authorities later, he didn’t see the police car until it was too late.
