KANSAS CITY, Kan. (KCTV) - A baby locked inside a car on Wednesday was rescued after a concerned shopper called 911.

It happened just after 7 p.m. on August 20 in the Target parking lot at The Legends.

A passerby noticed the baby, later determined to be a little more than one year of age, alone in the car in temperatures measuring in the mid-80s.

It is believed the child was in the car for about 15 to 20 minutes before law enforcement broke out the car window.

The child was rushed to a nearby hospital for a checkup and was found to be okay.

The baby is now in protective custody, while the adult caretaker is on a 2-day investigative hold pending charges for aggravated child endangerment.
