Mayor Knox shares facts and updates about iconic deer pen at Island Park

In light of recent social media commentary online, Portage la Prairie Mayor Sharilyn Knox took to her social media accounts to resolve some misconceptions about Island Park’s beloved deer pen enclosure and the deer inhabiting the space. Article content

Some people online believed the deer living in the pen were from the Assiniboine Park Zoo. Others claimed they believed the city was waiting for the animals to die off in order for the city to rezone the area into more housing.

“There has been some misinformation going around, so, let’s clear it up,” Knox said in a recent social media video on Facebook.

“This pen has been a part of our community for decades. Right now, there are four deer living here. It’s been over five years since the last fawn was born and we don’t expect any more bre
