AMES, Iowa — The Iowa Games have named Luke Daoust and Makenzie Klatt as the 2025 Marty McHone Iowa Games Male and Female Athletes of the Year.
These athletes will be honored at the Iowa Sports Foundation Recognition Reception in Des Moines on September 17.
Luke Daoust, a 17-year-old tennis player from Shenandoah, has been active in the sport since he was seven. He recently won Iowa Games gold medals in both singles and doubles. Known for his dedication, Daoust advised future athletes, "Don’t be afraid to try something new."
Makenzie Klatt, a 14-year-old swimmer from Boone, earned eight medals at the 2025 Summer Iowa Games. Her nominators describe her as "resilient and dedicated." Klatt encourages others by saying, "Don’t let your times define your experience."
