MT CARMEL, Pa. — Officer Justin Ruhl is a patrol officer for the Mt. Carmel Township Police Department. He wears many hats in this position, one of which is working to establish a K-9 unit at the department. Ruhl says the idea came after responding to different calls for service.

"Trying to get drugs off the street, trying to make the community safer. There have been a couple times where there have been people missing, and they were calling for dogs. Some were available and some were not," said Ofc. Justin Ruhl, Mt. Carmel Township Police Department.

Right now, Ruhl says the city of Shamokin and Mt. Carmel Borough have K9 officers. He says both officers who handle those K-9s work opposite shifts from he does, which is at night. The other issue is timing.
