A live-chat dispute between two players of the NBA 2K25 PlayStation game ended in a fatal shooting in northwest Miami-Dade that has a man facing a murder charge.

Derrick Terrell Ates III, 23, was arrested on a second-degree murder charge in the Aug. 14 shooting, records showed.

According to an arrest report, Ates and the victim were arguing in the live-chat while playing the game before Ates sent the victim his address on Northwest 155th Lane. Miami-Dade Corrections

The verbal dispute continued in person and the victim slapped Ates, before Ates pulled out a gun and shot the unarmed victim multiple times, the report said.

The victim, whose identity wasn't released, was taken to a local hospital where they were pronounced dead.
