Catherine Galliford, a high-profile former Mountie who fought against sexual harassment within the RCMP, has died.

Galliford died Friday from liver cancer. She was 58.

She served as a Mountie for 25 years, rising to the rank of corporal and becoming the face of the B.C. RCMP.

She was the spokeswoman for the B.C. Mounties in their high-profile investigation into the 1985 Air India bombing that killed 331 people and the disappearance of women from Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside that eventually led to murder charges against serial killer Robert Pickton.

In 2011, Galliford went public with allegations of sexual harassment within the RCMP, prompting other women in the force across the country to speak out against a culture of bullying and harassment.
